The Round Up 2023

A look at what school governors are facing in 2023 with the cost-of-living crisis, and the results of our latest surveys.

The economic challenges are reverberating in schools nationwide, with children and young people bearing the brunt of the impact. The rising cost of living crisis is adversely affecting their welfare, well-being, and educational outcomes. These pressing issues were at the forefront of the National School Governors' Awareness Day, held on Tuesday, 28th February.

Founded by Strictly Education, and supported by key event partner Governors for Schools, the day included eight webinars that provided vital information for school governors in Hot Topics, plus how to support schools staff and especially school pupils through economic difficulties and the mental health issues faced as a result of hardships.

Strictly Education commissioned two surveys ahead of National School Governors’ Awareness Day, the first with the general public to find out the level of understanding about school governance in the wider community. We also surveyed over 300 current school governors to learn what the cost-of-living crisis is having in their schools.
